Traveling through Roanoke? Check out these campgrounds in the area. | Roanoke Mountain (shown above). One mile off the Parkway at Milepost 120.4 (along the spur road to Mill Mountain). Open May 12 until October. Come meet Dexter, the campground host. Close to the Mill Mountain Star - a marvelous view of the Roanoke Valley & don't forget to see the star at night.

| Peaks of Otter - Milepost 86 (Approx. 30 miles north of Roanoke.) Open May 12 until October. Near Peaks of Otter Lodge and Abbott Lake. 144 Campsites at the foot of Sharp Top mountain (see above right). Facilities include water, comfort stations with flush toilets and cold running water sinks. No showers or hookups. Check out the Lodge's great Sunday brunch buffet. (540) 586-4357 |

| Rocky Knob - Milepost 167. (Approx. 45 miles south of Roanoke)
Open May 12 until October. (540) 745-9660. Close to Rockcastle Gorge and only minutes from Mabry Mill (Milepost 176.2). Cabins are also available for rent at Milepost 174.1 (Call 540-593-3503 for cabin rental information.) Local wineries on the parkway include Chateau Morisette (between Mileposts 171 & 172) and Villa Appalachia (Milepost 170.5). You may also want to visit the nearby town of Floyd, VA, home of County Sales - the world's largest collection of bluegrass, country western and cajun music CD's, cassettes, records, books and videos.
