Description: A 469 mile long non-commercialized route in the mountains. The primary tourist season is May - October. Camping, hiking, fishing, bicycling, picnicking, overlooks and much more. Plenty of spring and fall color to observe. The speed limit is 45 MPH. Motorcoaches are allowed on the parkway, however, short distances are recommended.

Location: The parkway begins in Waynesboro, VA at milepost 0, and ends in Cherokee, NC at Milepost 469, connecting the Shenandoah National Park (Skyline Drive) to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The parkway runs parallel to Interstate 81.

Description: Hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, horse trails, ATV trails, picnicking, and scenic byways are available at the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests. Nearly 1.9 million acres offer one of the greatest concentrations in the Southeast. Recreation areas range from highly developed to the isolated solitude of the wilderness.
Hours of Operation: With few exceptions, the forest is open 24 hours a day.
